NERDS!!

I’ve never read Anne of Green Gables, Sweet Valley High or Nancy Drew, but I did read every book in the Dune series by the time I was in High School.  I’m the one who hooks up our audio/visual equipment, not because my husband can’t, but because I like it.  I’ve got gadgets and gizmos aplenty, and take particular pride in my ability to do double digit multiplication in my head.  I am a nerd.  And while I hope my kids grow up learning the joys of self expression through the arts, and the satisfaction of playing a sport, what I really want for them is to honor and embrace their inner nerd.  Because you know what?  Nerds rule.  No, really, they rule the friggin’ world.  So even if you are terrified of the settings button on your iPhone, watch this video because maybe, just maybe, you can inspire your kid to love their inner nerd too.

Perfect Parenting Advice

That is the experience I had reading this fantastic article by JJ Keith on Huff Post Parents. We all suffer from the pervasive myth of perfect parenting, which is only reinforced by countless books and articles attempting to instruct us on how to become the perfect parent. Maybe you weren’t given the best advice when you were about to have your first child, or perhaps you loooooooove to give advice to your friends about their impending bundle of joy. In either case, this article is for you. It’s for all of us who ever have, or ever hope to, survive the role of motherhood.
